Bulk Process PDF Files — Handle 200 PDFs at Once

By PDFlys Team5 min read

Process Hundreds of PDFs Without Repeating Yourself

If you've ever needed to compress 50 files, add page numbers to 100 documents, or watermark an entire folder of PDFs, you know the pain: upload one file, wait, download, repeat. For hours.

PDFlys offers bulk processing mode for signed-in users. Upload up to 200 PDF files at once, apply your settings, and download everything as a single ZIP file — all processed in your browser.

Why Bulk Processing Matters

Bulk mode transforms time-consuming repetitive tasks into single-click operations:

  • Compress entire document archives before sharing with clients
  • Add page numbers to hundreds of report files at once
  • Watermark all marketing materials in one batch
  • Rotate scanned documents that came in sideways
  • Protect multiple confidential files with passwords simultaneously
  • Convert dozens of images to PDFs for archival purposes

Instead of processing files one by one for hours, bulk mode handles everything in minutes.

How to Use Bulk Processing Mode

Bulk processing is available for signed-in users on nine PDFlys tools. Here's how it works:

Step 1: Sign In and Open a Supported Tool

Navigate to any bulk-eligible tool (e.g., Compress PDF) and sign in with your Google account. Bulk mode is a free feature — no subscription required.

Step 2: Switch to Bulk Mode

Once signed in, you'll see a toggle to enable bulk mode. Click it to switch from single-file to batch processing.

Step 3: Upload Your PDF Files

Drag and drop up to 200 PDF files into the upload zone. You'll see a list of all queued files with individual progress tracking.

Step 4: Configure Your Settings

Set your processing options once — they'll apply to all uploaded files. Choose your compression level, rotation angle, watermark position, or password protection settings.

Step 5: Start Processing and Download

Click the process button to start. PDFlys processes up to 4 files simultaneously, showing real-time progress for each. When complete, download all processed files as a single ZIP archive.

Note

Bulk processing requires more browser memory than single-file mode. For very large batches (150+ files), close unnecessary browser tabs to free up RAM.

Which Tools Support Bulk Processing?

Bulk mode is available for these nine tools:

Tool Bulk Use Case
Compress PDF Reduce file sizes for entire document sets
Rotate PDF Fix orientation for scanned document batches
Add Page Numbers Number hundreds of files consistently
Protect PDF Password-protect multiple confidential files
Watermark PDF Brand entire document libraries at once
Sign PDF Apply digital signatures to bulk contracts
PDF to JPG Convert multiple PDFs to images in one go
PDF to Image Batch export PDFs to various image formats
JPG to PDF Convert hundreds of images to PDFs simultaneously

Each tool maintains its full feature set in bulk mode — you're not sacrificing quality or options for speed.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many files can I process at once?

Up to 200 PDF files in a single batch. Individual files can be up to 50 MB each, with a total batch limit of 2 GB. These limits ensure reliable performance across different devices and browsers.

Do I need to pay for bulk processing?

No. Bulk mode is free for all signed-in users. You need a Google account to sign in, but there's no subscription, no per-file cost, and no daily limits.

Can I cancel or retry individual files?

Yes. Each file is tracked independently. You can cancel the entire batch or let it continue. If a specific file fails (due to corruption or password protection), other files keep processing normally — you'll see an error only for that file.

How fast is batch processing?

It depends on your device and file sizes. PDFlys processes 4 files concurrently using web workers. On a modern laptop, a batch of 50 compressed PDFs (average 2 MB each) typically finishes in under a minute. All work happens on your CPU since nothing is uploaded.

What about privacy for large batches?

The same client-side architecture applies. Whether you process 1 file or 200, nothing is transmitted to any server. The ZIP file is assembled in your browser's memory and downloaded directly to your device.

Combine Bulk Mode with Other Workflows

After bulk processing, you can continue working with the results:

  • Merge PDF — Combine multiple processed files into single documents
  • Split PDF — Extract specific pages before starting a bulk operation
  • Organize PDF — Reorder pages across files after batch conversion

For teams with repeating bulk tasks — monthly report batches, quarterly watermarking, annual archive compression — bookmark the specific tool in bulk mode for one-click access next time.
